The French market is waiting for Baltic and Nordic businesses – but you need to understand the culture to unlock the market.

Europe has so many great markets for Baltics and Nordics companies to dive into. France is one of those export markets with a huge potential. The Paris area might be most famous, but there are many big cities with major industrial zones such as Lyon in the south. And, of course, there is the mega-port of Le Havre, that competes with Rotterdam and Antwerp as entrance gate to Europe.

The Baltic companies have many advantages for France, but there is one big challenge – how to connect with the businesses out there. One example. French business leaders want to meet, chat, wine & dine with their potential suppliers, before they even start thinking about doing business together. For the Estonian “tick the box on the online form” business culture, the gap is huge.

French-Estonian chamber helps to bridge the gap

In Tallinn, the first place to go to, in order to get closer to France, is the France-Estonia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI France-Estonie). The organisation was recently launched by a group of enthusiastic French business people living in Tallinn. The CCI is actually a repivot & rebranding of an existing French business network in Tallinn. By becoming a chamber of commerce, they are now part of the global CCI International chain of 120 French contact points in 90 different countries all over the world, and 160 in France. Violaine Champetier de Ribes leads the chamber, and invites all Estonian companies with an export intention to France to join as a member.

It’s good to know that there are people in the Baltics, who can help bridge the business culture gap, and tap new markets at the other side of Europe.
