6 challenges to build international teams

According to Scoro’s People Operations manager Annika Albert, building an international team has additional challenges on top of the heaquarter’s team development … she highlights 6 topics that require specific attention.

  • Cultural differences & local norms – Different countries have unique workstyles, communication norms, and expectations around hierarchy, feedback, and decision-making. Aligning a cohesive company culture while respecting local customs can be tricky
  • Consistency vs. flexibility – Maintaining a unified company culture across multiple locations while allowing for regional adaptations can be a balancing act. What works in one country may not resonate in another
  • Remote & hybrid work dynamics – With teams spread across time zones and work environments, fostering engagement, collaboration, and a shared sense of belonging requires extra effort.
  • Legal & regulatory differences – Employment laws, benefits, and workplace policies vary by country, making it challenging to ensure fair and consistent employee experiences globally.
  • Employee engagement & inclusion – Ensuring all employees feel equally valued and included, regardless of their location, can be difficult, especially if certain regions or offices receive more attention or resources.
  • Leadership alignment across regions – Leaders in different locations may interpret and implement company values differently, leading to inconsistencies in decision-making and employee experience.
