Management summary

First Tuesday is Tallinn’s fastest growing international business networking event for outward-looking companies, business leaders, investors, and institutional stakeholders. Each month brings new useful contacts from across Europe. Each time honorary guests from a focus industry bring their vision on a specific theme to spark the conversations.

This month is about ‘purpose’ with a slight focus on ‘food & agri’

This month’s theme is: “Should an international company be more purposeful to be successful across borders?” All sectors are welcome, but we do a specific reach-out to agriculture, food production, food supply chain, and forestry. There will even be a “mini food fair” showcasing and show-tasting Estonian sustainable food producers.

This month’s conversation starter

“Should an international company be more purposeful to be successful across borders?

Now that many governments are relaxing their green and ESG regulations, some companies might get the impression that sustainability is no longer a business priority. But that would be a mistake — especially if your clients are located in the so-called Blue Banana countries (from the UK and Benelux, through Germany and Switzerland, into Northern Italy). And, in the food & agri industry these corporate clients are often stricter than the local government when it comes to sustainability, traceability, and ESG practices.

This month, we explore how companies can remain competitive across borders by staying purposeful and aligned with market-driven sustainability expectations — even when regulations seem to loosen.

Special guests sharing their experiences

This time, we’ll kick off the networking with two inspiring contributions:

  • Siim Kabrits (Shroomwell). Siim will bring his international field experience about purpose in the food & agri industry. He will explain how different it is to produce mushrooms for Europe versus for the local Estonian market? He knows what the specific additional impact requirements Shroomwell is confronting when exporting food to the West.
  • Helen Aavisto (Rohetiiger). Our second guest will offer a European perspective on sustainability. As the international representative of Rohetiiger (Green Tiger), she meets business leaders and institutional stakeholders all over Europe. And, she will explain how different the mindset is in the Nordics, the West of Europe, and the Mediterranean area.
  • Kristiina Aljas-Saarma (ImpactBuilders) Kristiina will share practical insights on how to introduce ESG in a cost-effective way. Based on her experience at Tele2, she will explain how international companies can strengthen their ESG positioning without burdening their cost structures — a critical factor when expanding across European markets.
